The California Printmaker: Raising Your Voice, Telling Your Story

In the Eye of the Storm…

EMBRYONIC FLIGHT / Artist’s Proof / Etching on Hahnemuhle / 15.8” x 12.75” / 2005

In late August 2025, I responded to an open call entailing the submission of an emotionally driven series of etchings hand-pulled in the early 2000’s. Now and then there will come along an opportunity that simply resonates. And regardless of acceptance or not, I will often sense there is something I’m meant to learn from it all. This was one of those times.

It was a humbling experience to work with the CA Society of Printmakers. To be included amongst 14 artists of such caliber set the bar high. Five of my ten images were ultimately selected for publication. And revisiting this body of work created a safe open space for me to further explore my roots and acknowledge my own vulnerability. It was quite a challenge. And I am especially grateful to my editor, Margaret Niven, along with the entire editorial team, for their expertise and patience in producing such a stunning periodical.
