SHE’S LIKE THE WIND

My current drawing series personifies my inherent interest with those relationships lying beyond one’s ordinary field of awareness.
I love utilizing a diverse collection of mark-making implements when working with graphite. My favorite tool is an old brush I salvaged years ago from my Dad’s basement workspace. Tucked away in the studio, it recently resurfaced to become this remarkable applicator for the powdered medium itself. And with repetitive layering built into my genetic makeup, the method was perfect for producing an intriguing dimensional ground for whatever else might materialize.
I often imagine what my Dad might have accomplished with this particular item years ago. He did have a passion for wood and fine craft. Though a complicated man, he lived a simple life, and I’m unsure how many actually knew his quieter, pensive, more creative side. When I put the brush to use, I sense an inescapable familiarity in its movement, and I smile. Perhaps it’s the comfort we each have shared in doing something that we love.
